HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 cc18-9W
48. Mr. Fry

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the outcome of the representations he has made on the Australian import controls mentioned in his answer on 18th November to the hon. Member for Wellingborough.

Mr. Deakins

The Australian authorities have indicated that they feel unable to alter the temporary restrictions on footwear imports pending a review of the long-term protective needs of their footwear industry.

Sir G. de Freitas

asked the Secretary of of State for Trade what representations have been made to the Australian Government on the restriction of imports of footwear from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Deakins

In addition to representations by the British footwear industry, official approaches have been made to the Australian authorities about the adverse effects of the restrictions on British footwear exports, particularly on those goods made against contracts accepted before the operative date of the restrictions.
