HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 c5W
32. Mr. Palmer

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the approximate amount of extra investment in electrical resources likely to be brought about over the next six years if the present underpricing of electricity continues.

Mr. Eadie

The effect of electricity pricing on demand and therefore on investment is difficult to predict because electricity demand will also be affected by other fuel prices, and investment, too, is affected by other factors. However, the industry estimated a year ago that additional investment of some £400 million might be required over the next six years if electricity prices continued to be restrained below full costs.
