HC Deb 22 November 1974 vol 881 cc558-9W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will take steps to draw the attention of the general public to the fact that self-employed and non-employed persons are not covered for medical treatment when travelling in countries of the European Economic Community; and if she will ensure that such persons are advised to take appropriate independent action for their own insurance against this risk.

Dr. Owen

Information and advice of this kind is already given in departmental leaflet SA28 entitled "Medical treatment for holiday makers and other temporary visitors to countries of the European Economic Community" and obtainable at local social security offices. Medical cover for self-employed and non-employed persons is provided in Denmark under bilateral arrangements and will be available in the German Federal Republic following ratification of the convention recently signed with that country.
