§ Mr. William RossAt 31st December 1973 there were 7,982 persons in local authority homes for the elderly, and in addition there were 4,640 residents in voluntary and private homes registered under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 of whom 1,642 were assisted financially by the local authority.

§ Mr. William RossA survey at the end of 1973 showed that local authorities had provided rather less than one sheltered housing unit per 1,000 persons aged 65 or over, but housing associations, not included in the survey, have provided a substantial amount of this kind of accommodation. In addition, local authorities have plans to provide 2,750 places by the end of this year and a further 10,500 places between then and the end of 1978. A further survey will be made next year.
