HC Deb 21 November 1974 vol 881 c514W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many claims have been made by CIE in respect of trains or buses damaged and destroyed by terrorists within Northern Ireland territory; and how much compensation has been paid to date.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

In the period 1st April 1969 to 31st October 1974, 24 claims for criminal injuries compensation have been made by Coras Iompair Eirann (CIE) in respect of property damaged or destroyed within the territorial boundaries of Northern Ireland. So far, £83,612 has been paid in compensation to it under Northern Ireland criminal injuries compensation legislation. The early compensation records do not readily distinguish between damage by terrorists and damage by other persons acting unlawfully, nor between the types of property damaged or between claims in respect of property or persons.
