HC Deb 21 November 1974 vol 881 cc483-4W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the average number of households claiming rate rebates for each year since 1966; and if he will express the total numbers claiming as a percentage of those eligible.

Mr. Oakes

The average numbers of rate rebates granted were as follows:

1966–67 896,498
1967–68 787,150
1968–69 791,798
1969–70 807,956
1970–71 795,642
1971–72 806,671
1972–73 905,423
1973–74. (Estimated) 910,000

The figure for 1973–74 will be available shortly. There are insufficient data available to provide a realistic estimate of the numbers eligible.
