HC Deb 21 November 1974 vol 881 cc494-5W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has had in regard to the implications for the Press freedom arising from proposals to permit the creation of closed shops as envisaged in the Government's forthcoming employment protection legislation.

Mr. Booth

The Secretary of State and I have met the editors of the national newspapers, and representatives of the Guild of British Newspaper Editors, the Newspaper Society, the Institute of Journalists and the National Union of Journalists. He has also received a number of written representations. He is considering the various points put to him but at this stage has nothing to add to the answer he gave to the hon. Member for Lowestoft (Mr. Prior) yesterday.
