HC Deb 21 November 1974 vol 881 cc475-6W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his definition of genuinely private social clubs in paragraph 66 of the White Paper, "Equality for Women"; and if he will give some examples.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I would ask my hon. Friend to await the publication of the Bill.

Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if his proposals under paragraph 59 of the White Paper, "Equality for Women", which deals with education, means that it will be possible under this section for new single sex educational establishments to be established, and, if so, why.

Mr. Armstrong

I have been asked to reply.

While paragraph 58 of the White Paper sets out the Government's view that legislation should not make future single-sex schools and other educational establishments unlawful, the Government none the less welcome the general movement towards co-education.
