asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will introduce legislation to amend the Weights and Measures (Testing and Adjustment Fees) Regulations 1970 in order to allow local authorities the power to charge economic fees for verification of equipment and thereby produce increased revenue to themselves.

This matter is under review by my Department and local authorities will be consulted shortly on the structure and level of new fees.
