Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what is the number of females over 40 years of age who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

(2) what is the number of females aged 60 years and over who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

(3) what is the number of females under 20 years of age who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

(4) what is the number of females under 25 years of age who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

(5) what is the number of females aged between 50 and 60 years who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

(6) what is the number of males under 20 years of age who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

(7) what is the number of males under 25 years of age who have been unemployed for eight or more weeks for each year since 1945;

The following table shows an analysis by age of those unemployed for more than eight weeks. The most recent information is for July 1974 and the earliest figures, on a broadly comparable basis, are for June 1949. From 1962 the figures are for July each year and for earlier years for June.

Revised standard regions for statistical purposes were introduced in 1965 and comprehensive analyses of the unemployed for broadly comparable regional areas are available only from that date. The following table shows, for each year from 1965, the numbers of unemployed people aged 40 and over at July and the percentage they form of all employees, including the unemployed at mid-year.
