HC Deb 20 November 1974 vol 881 c416W
25. Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now take over responsibility for maintaining law and order on North Sea oil rigs from the Chief Constable of Aberdeen.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

These rigs are private property and the police function in relation to them is limited accordingly. My right hon. Friend has no plans to take it over. In relation to the co-ordination of Government measures necessary for the protection of rigs I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to my hon. Friend the Member for Huddersfield, East (Mr. Mallalieu) on 5th November.—[Vol. 880, c.112–13.]
