HC Deb 20 November 1974 vol 881 c434W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what studies are being made by his Department of the possibility of importing supplies of natural gas, over and above British production, to reduce the country's dependence on oil as a primary fuel.

Mr. John Smith

During the period when we are dependent on imported oil both my Department and British Gas will continue to keep closely informed of the availability of natural gas from sources outside the United Kingdom. Should it appear likely that supplies could be obtained on terms and conditions which would benefit the nation further imports would be considered.
