HC Deb 20 November 1974 vol 881 cc442-3W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many substandard dwellings have been upgraded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive by the provision of toilets and bathrooms.

Mr. Coneannon

The Northern Ireland Housing Executive assumed responsibility for public sector housing by stages over the period October 1971 to July 1973. It would not be possible without disproportionate cost to distinguish between the dwellings improved during this period by the former housing authorities and those improved by the Housing Executive.

Between 1st October 1971 and 30th June 1974 full improvement schemes were completed in respect of 703 public sector dwellings. In most of these cases the works carried out included the provision of w.c.s and bathrooms. In addition, during the same period 459 public sector dwellings were provided with standard amenities; 403 of these cases included the provision of a fixed bath or shower and 372 a flush w.c.
