HC Deb 19 November 1974 vol 881 cc344-5W
24. Mr. Lane

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are his latest estimates of expenditure on primary school building and replacement in 1974–75, 1975–76 and 1976–77, respectively.

Mr. Armstrong

I cannot yet say what level of resources will be available for the 1975–76 and 1976–77 school building programmes.

For 1974–75 lump sum authorisations totalling £111 million for major projects have been issued to local education authorities, plus minor works allocations totalling £54 million, and within these amounts it is for local education authorities to decide how much is to be committed to primary school projects. Further resources totalling £29 million were allocated on 7th November, of which £20 million is for major primary school improvement or replacement projects and the remainder is extra minor works.
