HC Deb 18 November 1974 vol 881 c287W
Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to protect the domestic textile industry from the present foreign competition.

Mr. Deakins

The textile industry already enjoys a considerable measure of protection against low-cost imports of cotton yarn. woven cotton and polyester cotton textile goods. We are always prepared to consider requests from industry for further protection, but we must be able to justify such protection within the framework of our international obligations.
