HC Deb 18 November 1974 vol 881 cc303-4W
Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the number of charities that applied for tax relief during the last full year for which figures are available, the number that were granted tax relief and the amount of tax relief so granted.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

The estimated number of repayment claims received in the year ending 30th September 1973 was about 75,000. An unknown number of these were multiple claims and it is not possible to give the number of individual charities. The amount of tax repaid was about £70 million.
