HC Deb 18 November 1974 vol 881 cc302-3W
Mr. Rose

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will set out in the OFFICIAL REPORT all SUMS paid to Great Britain from EEC funds.

Mr. Dell

Since 1st January 1973 the United Kingdom has received some £190 million from the Budget of the European Communities. This includes £146 million in respect of receipts by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce under the Guarantee Section of the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund; £27 million as the refund for the costs of collection of "own resources"; and £13 million for receipts from the European Social Fund. In addition the United Kingdom expects to receive some £9 million from the European Social Fund in respect of claims submitted for 1973. The Commission is still considering our application for 1974. The United Kingdom is also committed to receive a sum of over £8 million from the Guidance Section of the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund. The European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) has agreed to lend the National Coal Board and the British Steel Corporation some £79 million, of which £36 million has been received so far. The ECSC has also made a number of grants to United Kingdom bodies amounting to over £5 million of which some £1 million has so far been received. The European Investment Bank has also agreed to make loans totalling £43.3 million to public and private enterprises in the United Kingdom.
