asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will list the number of recorded cases of whooping cough in the last 10 years and the number of known fatal cases and of brain damage and other disability cases resulting from the whooping cough vaccination.

The number of cases of whooping cough and deaths from the disease recorded in England and Wales for the last 10 years is as follows:

A total of 472 reports have been received for the period 1964–72 by the Committee on Safety of Medicines describing adverse reactions following the administration of vaccine containing a pertussis component though many of these were not severe. A total of 15 deaths were recorded as following such vaccination but not all were neecssarily due to it.
