§ Mr. Geraint Howellsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will allow the University Grants Committee to resume making supplementation grants to the annual grants to universities.
§ Mr. PrenticeThe universities continue to be compensated in full for increased costs of academic salaries and local authority rates. To help universities to meet increases in other items of recurrent expenditure I announced in July that £4 million of supplementary grant will be paid during the current academic year, and I am keeping universities' needs under review.
