HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 c235W
Mr. Tierney

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he intends to take about rents of joint business-residential properties after the present freeze ends on 31st December.

Mr. John Silkin

Most mixed business and residential properties are let on business tenancies and their rents are accordingly frozen under the Counter-Inflation (Business Rents) Orders. My right hon. Friend set out the future arrangements for business rent control in a reply to the right hon. Member for Crosby (Mr. Page) on 13th November.—[Vol. 881, c.125–6.] Where the properties are held on controlled tenancies for the purposes of the Rent Acts, the freeze on their rents will be extended until the Housing Rents and Subsidies Bill, now before the House, comes into operation. This Bill contains provisions for the future of such tenances.
