Mr. Stanley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present ratio of Members of Parliament to electors in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, respectively.

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave yesterday to a Question by the hon. Member for Ashford (Mr. Speed).

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Members of Parliament within the existing total of 635 would be returned for each of England, Wales and Scotland if the ratio of Members of Parliament to electors were the same in all parts of Great Britain and the number of Members of Parliament from Northern Ireland remained unchanged.

The information is as follows: England, 532 Members; Wales, 32 Members; Scotland, 59 Members.

On the basis proposed in the Question the House would comprise 634 Members returned as follows: England, 528; Wales, 32; Scotland, 58; Northern Ireland, 16.
