§ Mr. Biffenasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recommendations have been received from the Salop County Council concerning the selection of headmasters for comprehensive schools; what further consideration is being given to ensuring that the existing authority of school governing bodies is maintained in such selection; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ArmstrongThe Salop Education Authority has submitted draft articles of government for its county secondary schools which include provisions designed to give the authority responsibility for first appointments of heads to new schools and to make subsequent appointments the responsibility of a joint committee composed of three members of the local education authority and two governors. The Department is in correspondence with the authority about these and other proposed provisions and I will write to the hon. Member when consideration of the draft articles has been completed.
