HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 cc233-4W
Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many appointments he intends to make to the Cairn-cross Committee on the Channel Tunnel; and when this committee will start its work.

Mr. Crosland

I do not foresee adding substantially to the four appointments already made to this group of independent advisers, who have already started work.

Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what facilities on noise measurement and suppression his Department is providing for British Rail in connection with the Channel Tunnel rail link.

Mr. Mulley

British Rail are responsible for their own noise research programme, which is partly supported by the Department, and for preparing noise contour maps and remedial measures along the proposed route of the rail link. We shall take full account of these studies in deciding the final route.
