HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 c199W
Mr. Raison

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much English butter has been produced between April, when the Government announced their subsidy on liquid milk, and September; and how much English butter was produced in the same period in 1973.

Mr. Bishop

Production figures are published on a monthly and United Kingdom basis. Butter production totalled 39,700 tons in the six months April-September 1974, compared with 61,300 tons in April-September 1973. The increase in the liquid milk consumption had a relatively small effect on the supply of milk available for butter manufacture.
