HC Deb 13 November 1974 vol 881 c158W
Mr. Bates

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total staffing of the youth service in England at the latest date for which figures are available; by how many this was below establishment; and what was the total expenditure on advertising for recruitment into the service in the last financial year.

Mr. Hugh Jenkins

There were 2,830 full-time youth workers, including joint teacher/youth leader appointments, on 31st December 1973, the latest date for which information is available. There is no national establishment but vacancies and new posts forecast for 1974 totalled 685. Part-time appointments are not recorded. Advertising costs are met by individual training institutions and prospective employers.
