HC Deb 13 November 1974 vol 881 cc162-3W
Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current waiting list for entry into Government training centres in the North-West region; how many persons are at present undertaking courses; and how many have been unable to be accepted for training or retraining.

Mr. Harold Walker

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that on 30th September 1974 the waiting list for entry into skillcentres—formerly Government Training Centres—in the Training Services Agency's North-West Region was 1,448. Of those 248 had been allocated to skillcentres and were due to start training within three weeks.

On the same date 1,507 people were in training in skillcentres in the North-West Region.

No applications from suitable candidates are rejected if immediate allocation to training cannot be arranged. In these circumstances names are added to the waiting list.
