HC Deb 13 November 1974 vol 881 c124W
35. Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to improve facilities for checking the safety and loading of goods vehicles entering Great Britain; and if he will give financial assistance to the county councils involved to effect improvements.

Mr. Mulley

Where facilities at main ferry ports are inadequate for checking the loading of goods vehicles I am already taking steps to improve them as a charge on central funds. Additional weighbridges are being provided at Dover—four sites, including one on the A2—Newhaven, Poole, Plymouth, Harwich, Felixstowe and Heysham. Subsequent provision will depend on the growth of ferry traffic at other ports.
