Mr. Raison

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will give an estimate of the amount being saved by the average family per week on each item of food currently in receipt of subsidy.

Mr. Maclennan

On the basis of the results of the National Food Survey for the second quarter of 1974 the estimated weekly saving for a typical family of two adults and two children is as follows:

Bread 11p
Milk 48p
Butter 11 ¾p
Cheese 10½p
Household flour 1p
Tea 3¼p

following items, and what is the percentage increase involved in each case: 1 lb. bacon, 1 lb. margarine, 1 lb. coffee, tin or baby milk, bar of toilet soap, leg of lamb, leg of pork, tin of canned meat, 1 dozen eggs, 10 fish fingers, 1 lb. sugar, 1 lb. potatoes, tin of baked beans, 1 lb. tomatoes, 1 lb. silverside, and 3 lb. frozen broiler chicken.
