HC Deb 13 November 1974 vol 881 cc128-9W
55. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what examination is being made by his advisers into possible alternatives to the chlorination of drinking water in the light of recent studies in the United States of America; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Crosland

The US Environmental Protection Agency studies are far from conclusive and the agency did not suggest any change in present practice. For other reasons my Department commissioned studies of alternative to chlorination some time ago and these are still proceeding. The situation will continue to be kept under review by my advisers.
