HC Deb 13 November 1974 vol 881 c152W
Mr. Warren

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will explain changes in his policy towards beef since his statement in the House on 26th June 1974, that returns for farmers on cattle would not fall below £18 per hundredweight.

Mr. Bishop

The assurance which my right hon. Friend gave on 26th June was that over a period producers' returns would not drop below about £18 per live cwt. for clean quality cattle. Our policy on beef and our recognition of the need for action was fully explained in the debate in the House on 31st October 1974 and in my right hon. Friend's reply to Questions on 7th November—[Vol. 880, c. 406–16 and c. 1216–17]

Mr. Jopling

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much money has been spent by the EEC in paying transport subsidies on beef, bought under intervention, to cold stores in Great Britain in each of the last six months, stating the number of tons involved in each case.
