HC Deb 12 November 1974 vol 881 c63W
Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many Egyptian students holding visitors' permits for the United Kingdom were issued with national insurance documents permitting them to take up employment during the current year.

Mr. Alec Jones

National insurance cards were issued to 4,274 persons who came to this country from Egypt and registered for national insurance between January and October 1974 inclusive but there is no record of the number of Egyptian students included in that figure. Possession of a national insurance card does not confer permission to take up employment.
