HC Deb 08 November 1974 vol 880 c281W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether British Airways has advised him that it would like to have all its future Boeing jumbo jets powered by the Rolls-Royce Dash 524 engine; whether an order has yet been placed; and why an initial contract is still awaiting his approval.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The British Airways Board has decided in principle that it would like the RB211–524 engine to power all Boeing 747 aircraft to be delivered to British Airways from 1977. My right hon. Friend has told the board that he will be prepared to approve its proposed initial order for four of these aircraft once the Government's condition for providing financial backing for this application of the engine has been met.
