§ Sir Anthony Royleasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the number of grade I officers, grade II and/or Deputy Under-Secretaries of State, grade III and/or Assistant Under-Secretaries of State and grave IV and/or heads of Department now posted to the FCO in the London area who have motor cars allocated to them for their heavy diplomatic duties and therefore do not use any car pool.
§ Mr. EnnalsNone. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has a pool of 10 estate vehicles. They are primarily employed in carrying Queen's Messengers and diplomatic mail to and from airports and stations. When these duties permit, the vehicles may be made available on application to senior officers of the Diplomatic Service for official journeys. If pool vehicles are not available, officers use public transport or, alternatively, may apply for the use of a pool car from the Government car service, which is controlled by the Department of the Environment.
