HC Deb 07 November 1974 vol 880 cc190-1W
34. Mr. Ridley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the reasons for a much higher price for beef to farmers in the Republic of Ireland than in the United Kingdom, in view of the fact that both countries are members of the EEC; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bishop

Since the end of August the average market price for adult cattle in the United Kingdom has been below that of the Irish Republic for only one week. Over the last few weeks United Kingdom prices have been between 50p and £1 per live cwt. higher.
