HC Deb 07 November 1974 vol 880 c210W
Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if the recent pay agreement between British Airways and the British Airline Pilots' Association conforms with the terms of the social contract.

Mr. Booth

The settlement, which covers 3,300 pilots, provides average salary increases of 16.1 per cent. exclusive of threshold payments to date. It will operate from 1st April 1975, the anniversary of the last increase. Other provisions in the agreement will enable British Airways to make considerable savings which will substantially reduce the net cost. The settlement has been accepted as being within the terms of the social contract.
