HC Deb 06 November 1974 vol 880 cc166-7W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total sum which he has allocated to the Leicestershire County Council for major school projects in the building year 1974–75; what proportion of that figure is intended to provide for replacement as well as basic need; and what was the sum for which the county council asked.

Mr. Armstrong

The Leicestershire Education Authority's lump sum authorisation for major school projects in 1974–75 designed to meet basic needs is £2,355,000. None of this is intended for replacement purposes; education authorities will shortly be notified of projects accepted for this year's replacement programme. The authority did not ask for a sum for basic needs; it inherited from its predecessor authorities lists of projects for both basic need and replacement purposes.
