HC Deb 06 November 1974 vol 880 cc167-8W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what progress he has made in locating premises for job-centres in Kingstanding and Great Barr, Birmingham.

Mr. John Fraser

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that efforts to obtain suitable sites for job-centres in Kingstanding and Great Barr continued after my letter to the hon. Member on 2nd May 1974. A site was recently identified in Great Barr, but because the funds available for fitting out jobcentres have been temporarily exhausted negotiations for the acquisition of the site have had to be abandoned. All the funds available in 1974–75 and likely to be available in 1975–76 for the acquisition of premises and conversion into job-centres have now been earmarked and there is little possibility of opening job-centres in the places mentioned before 1976.
