asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much was raised by income tax in each of the last 10 years of assessment; and what is the estimated yield for the current year of assessment.

The figures for 1964–65 to 1972–73 are given in Table 1 of the report of the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Inland Revenue for the year ended 31st March 1973 (Cmnd. 5487). The yield in 1973–74 was £7,137 million. The estimated yield of income tax for 1974–75 as given in the March "Financial Statement and Budget Report 1974–75" is £9,682 million.
