asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what was the total number of staff in post in her Department on (a) 1st April 1974, (b) 1st July 1974, (c) 1st November 1974; and what is the total authorised establishment.

The total number of staff in post in my Department was 211 on 1st April 1974, 278 on 1st July 1974 and 304 on 1st November 1974. The present authorised establishment is 332. These totals do not include the staffs of the Metrication Board, the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, the Office of Fair Trading and the Price Commission for which I have responsibility.
