§ Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied that beef producers have been assured a reasonable return as he indicated would be the case with the introduction of his premia on 17th July.
§ Mr. BishopThe Beef Premium Scheme provided the incentives for orderly marketing of clean cattle with a view to maintaining total returns to producers at a reasonable level over a period. Excessive marketings have so far negated the objective of the scheme and prices have been further depressed by the generally lower than usual quality of animals. With a more normal flow of marketings and steeply increasing rates of premium returns should improve over the next few months.
