HC Deb 05 November 1974 vol 880 cc119-20W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what initiatives he intends to take at the forthcoming World Food Conference; and if he will make a statement concerning his response to proposals to be discussed there.

Mr. Peart

The Government intend to make a positive contribution to the work of the conference. That work will centre on the suggestions which have been produced by the preparatory committee of the conference, in which the United Kingdom has played an active part. Amongst the many proposals before the conference, I would mention that we propose to support the expansion of the existing food information system, to reiterate our acceptance of the basic principles and objectives of the world food security undertaking which has been developed within FAO, and to declare the Government's willingness to put greater emphasis on food production and rural development in its aid for developing countries.
