HC Deb 05 November 1974 vol 880 c103W
37. Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the present Army operation in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The Army is in Northern Ireland to assist the Royal Ulster Constabulary in the task of combating violence and terrorism, from whatever quarter it may come. To this end Army operations are intended to prevent terrorists from acquiring and using arms and explosives and to help to bring to justice those who commit acts of violence.
