Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many passenger and bed lifts in the Macclesfield district of the Merseyside Regional Health Authority conform to British Standard Institution specifications.

Of the five bed and three chair lifts in hospitals in the Macclesfield district of the Mersey region four of the bed lifts conform to BSI specification.

Health authorities have been urged to meet British Standard requirements.
