HC Deb 04 November 1974 vol 880 cc73-4W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the latest estimate of the number of man-days being currently lost to production as a result of short-time working.

Mr. Booth

For the week ending 17th August 1974, it is estimated that 33,900 operatives in manufacturing industries in Great Britain were stood off for the whole or some part of the week and a total of 440,300 hours were lost. Assuming an average working day of eight hours the figures are equivalent to a loss of about 55,000 man-days.
