HC Deb 04 November 1974 vol 880 cc79-80W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is satisfied with the firefighting precautions at Magilligan Prison; and what steps are being taken to improve them.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Fire precautions and the fire-fighting organisation at the prison are under review in view of recent disturbances there.

Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps are being taken to increase the security of the compounds at Magilligan Prison.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

It would not be in the public interest to give details of security measures at Magilligan Prison. I can, however, assure the hon. Member that the security of the prison is under constant review and that steps which are necessary and practicable to improve security are being taken.
