HC Deb 24 May 1974 vol 874 cc369-70W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will immediately increase the grant to the Tower of London Armouries, as their present grant of £8,000 per year has fallen behind the rise in the cost of antique armour and weapons.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

In common with other national museums and galleries, the annual grant for the armouries is determined for a fixed number of years. The present grant was determined for a period of four years from 1971–72. and is therefore due for review before the end of this financial year. However, five special grants have been authorised during the period to enable items of particular value to be purchased, the most recent being the collection of arms, armour and related books of the late Dr. Richard Williams.
