HC Deb 24 May 1974 vol 874 c286W
Mr. Bates

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is satisfied with the number of applications to enter teacher training; and whether he will launch an advertising campaign on television and in the Press to attract people into teaching.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to a Question by the hon. Member for Southampton, Itchen (Mr. Mitchell) on 17th May.—[Vol. 873, c. 548.] A general campaign is not considered necessary, but Press advertising for mathematics, science and handicraft teachers has been undertaken in the current school year.
