HC Deb 24 May 1974 vol 874 c313W
Mr. Hordern

asked the Lord President of the Council what would be the cost of paying the same benefit to Members of Parliament who retired or left the House before October 1964, and who served 10 years as Member of Parliament, as to those who have reached retirement age and who have left the House since 1964.

Mr. Edward Short

Information about the number of Members of Parliament who retired or left the House before October 1964 and whether they or their widows are still alive is imprecise. However, the actuarial estimated annual cost at the present time on the basis of the information available is of the order of £150,000.
