asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many rabbit clearance societies existed in England and Wales in 1970; and how many exist today.

In 1970 there were 620 rabbit clearance societies in England and Wales. Some of these have amalgamated, some now call themselves pest control societies, while others have disbanded. In all, our estimate is that there are now about 200 rabbit clearance or pest control societies.
