Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what was the British share of world exports of manufactured goods in 1950, 1960, 1970 and the latest available year.

The United Kingdom's share of the total value of exports of manufactured goods by the world's 12 main manufacturing countries* was 16.5 per cent, in 1960, 106 per cent. in 1970 and, as provisionally estimated, 9.4 per cent. in 1973. Figures are not readily available for years earlier than 1954, when the United Kingdom's share was 20.2 per cent.

* United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France. German Federal Republic, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and Japan, accounting in 1971 for 77 per cent. of exports of manufactured goods by all countries.
